HERO OF NOTHING

ORIGINAL DRAWING

ARTWORK DETAILS

Artist: Jose Mertz
Title: Hero of Nothing
Medium: Graphite on paper
Size: 32 × 41 in
Status: Sold
Sale Price: $6,000 USD

DESCRIPTION

Hero of Nothing explores the tension between ego, myth, and self-erasure. Anchored by a central blindfolded figure and encircled by predatory forms, the drawing reflects on the psychological weight of power, identity, and internal conflict.

Repeating tiger imagery functions as both guardian and threat—symbols of instinct, dominance, and survival—collapsing inward toward the figure at the core. The composition moves between control and chaos, invoking a state where strength is inseparable from vulnerability.

Jose Mertz is a Miami-based contemporary visual artist whose work bridges draftsmanship, street culture, mythology, and modern symbolism. His practice draws from ancient iconography, personal narrative, and disciplined mark-making to construct images that feel both monumental and introspective.

ORIGINAL WORK
